Special Olympics Fashion Show
(First Place)
Lawton MacArthur High School, Lawton, OK
- Rhonda Bernard
- Candice Lewis
- Ashlynne Haycock
Our Special Olympics Fashion Show not only raised $2,075 to send the team and volunteers to Stillwater, but also gave our Special Olympics team a chance to shine. Although we had many models, our Special Olympic models stole the show with their fierce run-way struts and poses! The fashion show gave them an opportunity that they rarely get, which was taking the spotlight! They sang, danced, modeled, and got to show their strength and confidence, Although the show took many long hours to finally complete, the feeling we had after was irreplaceable!
Freedom Isn’t Free – “A Tribute to Veterans”
(Second Place)
Ada High School, Ada, OK
- Ellen Estabrooks
- Madison McKenzie
- Paige Covington
Our goal was to teach our peers and community about how Veterans have impacted our lives and country. The bulk of our project revolved around the first ever Veteran's Day Assembly which included: Presentation of Colors, 15 minute video of local Veterans, patriotic songs from the Ada High Band, and a reception for the Veterans. Once we got started we couldn't stop with an assembly, we then taught 3rd and 4th graders about Veterans and had them make Valentines that would later be delivered to the Sulphur Veteran's Center. To complete this project we notified students and faculty with flyers and announcements to bring military related photos to be displayed on a wall in Ada High School. We feel as though we made a great impact on our peers and community about what these great men and women have done for the United States of America.
Bauxite Bake Sale for the Needy
(Third Place)
Bauxite High School, Bauxite, Arkansas
- Elaine Doak
- Kellie Rodgers
- Katie Gentry
- Jaylynn Chitwood
Raising over $1,055.00, we have provided Christmas for four needy children over the past two years. For this year's bake sale we collected about $185.00 in donations to buy supplies. We spent over 21 hours between making calls, shopping, baking, selling, and cleaning up. Raising a grand total of $350.00 from the bake sale itself, we were able to buy clothes, shoes, candy, and plenty of toys for the two children. The best thing about the bake sale is that nothing was sold for more than a dollar.

Going Green Can Contest
(Fourth Place)
Atlanta High School, Atlanta, TX
- Anna Haskins
- Anthony Haskins
- Charles Roquermore
- Jasmine Milligan
In our project we wanted to make a difference; so our group came up with an idea to have the kids at the Atlanta Primary school learn about recycling and raise money by collecting cans to donate to the local Women's Shelter. The class that raises the most money will be rewarded with a pizza party; (the pizza being donated by our local Domino's Pizza). The representatives of the shelter told us that sometimes the women and children have to leave quickly or just don't have anything to call their own. We decided that with the money we raised we would buy the women and children pj's and books. We've enjoyed doing this project and have raised $444.80!
Senior Citizens Center Volunteer Projects

Yukon High School, Yukon, OK

We worked a total of 38 hours at these 4 organizations so far. At each place we set up a "Heart to Heart" call list in which the nurses or patients can call us whenever they feel a patient needs companionship or if they just want to have a little fun! We completed a 1000 piece puzzle with 5 elderly at Victorian Estates Nursing Home. At Integris Canadian Valley Hospital we brought $100 worth of toys for the hospitalized children. Our project is still in progress and will continue throughout the summer months!
Student Internet Safety
Watonga High School, OK
- Hillary Mahoney
- Breanna Faris
- Dausha Janko
- Sherman Harris
Our team began this project in November by presenting Internet Safety issues to community leaders, school administrators, Blaine County DHS workers, judicial officials, and the various police departments during the Blaine County Listening Luncheon Program. This presentation was well received and school officials requested follow-up presentations be made to students. Our first follow-up activity was presented to 4th grade students on April 2, 2008 at Watonga Elementary. Using the "Missing" Internet Safety Program on the classroom Smartboard, we worked with the students to understand that social networking can be fun, but safety rules must be learned to prevent unfortunate crimes against children. Our team is scheduled to provide additional programs at Watonga Elementary during the month of May.
Civil Awareness Assembly
Moore High School, Moore, OK
We called the project the Civil Awareness Assembly; What it consisted of was a representative from each party platform who came to speak to all seniors (mainly those who would be at voting age for the primaries) and explain what each party platform was and where they stood on political issues. It was a rotation of around 500 seniors throughout the day. We then held a question and answer session. The project was mainly to inform them so they could make informed decisions when registering to vote. The next day we followed up with a voter's registration drive where about 300 seniors registered.
Oklahoma Children’s Cancer Association
Watonga High School, Watonga, OK

Teacher Appreciation Banquet
Navaho High school, Altus, OK
I opened the evening with a welcome to the honored teachers. The event was 1 hour and 30 minutes long. I and other students served 60 people (teachers, guests, and students) dinner. We then had a guest speaker talk on the importance of teachers, and education. Then each student presented a gift and speech about his/her teacher. We ended with another speaker. Then I closed the evening thanking the teachers for coming.
